Pakuranga Heights sits inland from the Pakuranga shopping centre in East Auckland, a mostly residential pocket that doesn't get much foot traffic from outside the neighbourhood. The Eastgate Op Shop, run by Eastgate Christian Centre, is the exception — it draws people in from across East Auckland for the sheer scale of what's on offer.
At around 1500 square metres, it's considerably bigger than most op shops, with a genuinely large stock of new and secondhand furniture, bric-a-brac, clothing and collectables moving through the floor.
Reviews lean strongly positive: shoppers have called it the best op shop in New Zealand, praised the friendly team and affordable prices, and say they regularly find brand-new items among the secondhand stock. A smaller number of reviews flag inconsistent pricing between staff and a rude interaction on one visit, so experiences do vary.
It keeps some of the longest hours of any shop in this directory — 8:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 4:30pm on Saturday — making it easy to fit in outside a standard weekday nine-to-five.
