Just off New Lynn's main shopping strip, the Salvation Army Family Store on Margan Avenue has been a fixture of West Auckland op-shopping for years, with a broad range of donated clothing, furniture and household goods spread across a well laid-out floor.
Reviews split fairly evenly between two camps. On one side, shoppers call it "a highlight of New Lynn," praising helpful staff and an easy-to-navigate layout, and note that the money spent there genuinely serves the local community. On the other, a number of long-time customers say the shop has become noticeably more expensive over time, with some describing it as no longer the bargain stop it used to be.
As with all Salvation Army stores, sales here help fund the organisation's wider social services, including foodbank and budgeting support in the local area.
It's an easy add-on to a trip to LynnMall or the rest of New Lynn's shops, with the store open most days of the week including a late night on Thursdays.
